Banana Republic: Republic for All

For this group project, we were tasked with creating an anti-racist campaign.

We chose Banana Republic — not because it was easy, but because it wasn’t. That name — wrapped in colonial history — has felt a bit loaded at times.

The name was the hill. So we attacked it. Republic for All. Republic of ___. An invitation to claim space by filling in the blank and making it one’s own.

We launched a fashion contest for underrepresented students, to put new voices on the map. It wasn’t just about fixing something out of date and oppressive. It was about letting people see themselves —maybe for the first time — in something they thought wasn’t theirs.
